music is my biggest inspiration, it plays a huge part in my life, (yes living in, you know, here) music wasn't a big deal especially at my childhood, music was forbidden at our house, -yes I was living in that footloose town 😄- so I started very late I think around 8th grad --secretly-- when I started to save up form my allowance and buy some cassettes and use my walkman.
even then I used to play songs in secrets so no one knows, I was only listing to Arabic music back then, and didn't know a lot of songs.
one day my relatives catch me listening to some songs, and I thought I was doomed, he gonna tell on me, and I'll be in huge trouble, haha but he actually gave me a cassette and told me "try these types of songs, it will change your life", and oh boy how they did.
the cassette was a collection of songs, and guess what was the first one?!
yes Barbie girl!!!, but the second one was the "Space Oddity" so I turned up, hmm... I think OK 😂.
also, it included some of Ricky Martin songs and Mr. Roboto
I didn't know the songs back then, or even the lyrics, but as I got older and learned English more, I searched for these songs and found how amazing they were, even Barbie, we still listen to them with my sisters 🤣
recently a friend of mine asked me about the top ten songs that marked my life, and there was a story about a cirten music I wanted to share and it was in my drafts for months, so I thought this a good chance to finish the story.
picking just 10 songs is not an easy task, but I'll try and here some songs or music that have made a different for me:
the reason why I bought a guitar.
Romanza is a famous piece of music, I saw it and listen to it a lot, but it was always on piano. and when I saw this clip, I told myself guitar is the perfect musical instrument that can play anything, this clip was so impressive to me, so I bought a guitar. don't worry it still collecting dust.
I am not a sports guy, I am not into football or any sports and when anyone asked me "WHY" I replayed with:
I cant program the ball and what angle it goes 😝.
despite that, I enjoyed the world cup for football, and I get excited when watching it with other friends and family.
and the first world cup I watched fully,,, you know I was sharing my room with my younger brother, and in late 2009 I finally got my own room, my TV, so excited that I called my friends and we gather together almost every night to watch the games. it's become a tradition for me every four years, and I can't wait to see it next year.
oh I know you waiting for the story,,, hang in there, just a couple more 😜...
my first "boy band" 😅 was Backstreet Boys, I was crazy about their songs, I remember to borrow CDs from my friends at school and copy them to my computer, actually the first CD I got and the first song I played was 'Larger Than Life'. the spaceship, the robots, and everything were so futuristic!
I also listened to Queen, NSYNC, Boyzone.
speaking of space 😂, the funniest memory I remember from firndes TV show is when chandler was recording himself singing it 😅, I think that was in my second year at high school. and it always reminds me of my relative when he gave me the first cassette "it will change your life"
so let's get to the main story, I think I was in the 4th or the 6th grade, can't remember exactly, we love to go to the beach, and sometimes we spend a whole weekend there.
one day I wake up so early before anyone else and took the radio with me, it was an old cassette and radio which was running on battery and secretly sneak to the shore, I set there my feet all wet, and a lovely breeze in the air.
so I was skipping in channels looking for anything to listen to it, and I came on this channel that was playing a piece of music, solo piano.
I lost myself on it, the piano with the beach it was, I can't describe it, felt floating, let the waves take me away from everything around me.
in the middle of all self losing, I suddenly remembered why not record it!!
I use to record from the radio a lot so I already have an empty cassette, and just started to record.
from that day, every time I feel blue, that music was to the rescue.
years after that, I got my first computer, and the first thing I want to do is to convert that piece of music to the computer. so I digitally recorder it, and I spend more years listen to it over and over again.
fast forward on time again... I thought why not use 'shazam' on this song and let see what came up.
and surprise surprise, I found it, the full music clear sound not just a crappy recording, after 25 years, I found my music.
I recently contacted the musician about this song and how I loved it for 25 years, and I asked him for permission to use it in one of my videos, but sadly he forwarded me to the publisher and he sends me a quote for every 1000 views, so it wasn't worth to spend any money for it, but it's there in most of the streaming services these days, and still I can enjoy listing to it.
every time this song comes up I get into this state like my life is gone and I am really older and passing my sixty, and I imagine myself living alone, it's cold to be old!
Soon, I'll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold?
Or will I have a lot of children who can hold me?
Soon, I'll be sixty years old
nowadays, most of my inspiration for new music is coming from TV shows or movies, and I do remember which songs from what show 😅
from Gilmore Girls: Come A Little Bit Closer
from modern family: Cat's In the Cradle 😢
and so many more.
in 2019, we as a family finally got a chance to go for our first international trip, and we picked Dubai, it was an amazing trip, and the first song we all agreed to listen to it while leaving the airport heading to the hotel was:
so every time this song came up, it was like a replay for that trip, oh I miss traveling 😪
for the past year, or I think since the pandemic, I started to explore more new music, for example, these two songs were the most played back in my cabin:
and finally, two of my favorites channels to pick amazing music that is so close to my taste, every time they upload a new video, I am in anticipation of what new songs I'll be adding to my library that day.
I can't recommend these channels enough if you like brilliant and creative content
final thought, till now I don't have any preference or specific genre to listing to, whatever the music if I liked the rhythm, I listen to it.
thank you for sticking till the end, and I am really sorry if you don't like music, you just waste half an hour of your life 😅
